From inception to its final transformation to stone,

sculpting with clay demands inspiration and an awareness of the material’s fragile and constantly changing properties.

 

In this sculpture series slabs of clay are joint together, to construct the female figure, rendering each work as a stylized form. The angles and contours create a composition of yin and yang, vertical and horizontal, ridges and curves that grace the sculptures with a linear elegance.

 

Glazed with a rich gloss, the colours umber, burgundy and beige act in harmony as they merge and overlap to add depth and endow strength and sensuality to the female form—the form that embodies the bounty of the Earth.
