About The Artist

Reena D Kochar's love for art has been a driving force in her life, guiding her through numerous creative phases and professional endeavours. Her journey began with a Fine Arts degree from Stella Maris University in 1997, Chennai. After completing her studies, Reena worked with a garment export company before establishing her own boutique. Specialising in designing bespoke garments for a select clientele, she achieved significant success in the fashion world.

However, Reena's passion for artistic expression led her to make a transformative decision. In 2005, she chose to close her successful boutique to fully dedicate herself to painting. This shift marked the beginning of her serious career as an artist. Since then, Reena has actively showcased her
painting and sculptures in various exhibitions across India and internationally, earning recognition for her unique style and vision.

Reena's path took a new direction when she relocated to Malaysia, where she spent 17 years exploring the rich traditions of Southeast Asia. During her time there, she delved into diverse art techniques, including batik, Chinese watercolours, and sculpture. It was in Malaysia that Reena discovered a profound connection with clay, a medium that deeply resonated with her
creative spirit. The tactile nature of clay provided her with a dynamic form
of expression, allowing her to explore the vulnerabilities and multi-dimensional transformation inherent in the artistic process.

Central to Reena’s work are themes of women and nature. She passionately believes in the intrinsic connection between humanity and the natural world, reflecting this belief through her art. Her sculptures and paintings are imbued with intensity, capturing her emotional responses to various
situations and understanding the interplay between the ever-changing female form and the complexities of the human mind. Her art delves into how these elements function within the broader context of society and nature, offering thought-provoking reflections on the human experience.

Recently returning to India, Reena has embraced the opportunity to reconnect with her roots and integrate her experiences into her artwork. The changing face of cities with their bustling urban life and diverse culture have become a significant influence in her creative thought process. Her
current works reflects this with new insights and inspiration.

Reena’s paintings and sculptures are characterised by a compelling sense of interrelationship with the distinctive stillness in her style. Through all of Reena's experiences and evolution, the one constant that has remained is her style- contemporary form and bold colours that translates the narrative in each of her works.
